A list of ordinaries:

• the classes I teach are ending for the semester

• winter deepens; for the first time this season, my breath smokes as I warm up the car in the morning

• my cat demands more attention—wanting to curl up beside me on the couch for warmth

• last month for almost a complete 48 hour period, the landscape covered itself in fog, mist, rain—

• ironically, Ricky's orchids bloomed wide white mouths, yawning from their perch inside the window sill, basking in the winter sunlight

A new painting becomes an emphasis lately— shadows darkening, highlights increasing around the model's form. Titled The Blue Hour: Breathe, it fits into a new series. The series will revolve around blue colors, a disrobed male form, and casual usage of text, scraps of words placed in strategic areas on the canvas.

It's odd how projects seem to dictate importance by themselves, some remain in the background for a few months/years until they decide to appear on paper—while others grab my attention for extended periods, transforming at a rapid pace. Breathe, for almost a year, existed only as a small sketch. Every so often I would find it tucked in my notebook with a handful of pictures from the photo session with a live model.
